About Us

WHO WE ARE

Picture of me Ted Brewer, my wife Dianne and our dog Jak, we are the core team  – I design and make all the instruments myself,  my wife Dianne does all the invoicing, bookkeeping and marketing – our dog Jak just keeps us company.

If you phone our workshop you will get either myself or my wife on the phone. We are always happy to chat and to help if you have any queries or email us at ted@tedbrewerviolins.com.  We love to travel but even when we are away we are available by email and will respond to you quickly.

If you call though please take time zones into consideration.  Our business hours are 9.00am – 5.00pm Monday to Saturday.

We have other lovely people that help us – Dr Rob Lloyd who sorts out our CNC machine for us, Brian Chapman who is our electronics expert and Shelley Brewer (my daughter in law) who does most of our photography.

Starting Out

I made the first electric violin in 1993, for a violinist friend. Having experimented with acrylic before, I decided to use it again for this commission, to create a visually dramatic look that would add to the impact of the sound.

Now counting Vanessa Mae amongst clients, things have moved on considerably in the years since…

The history

I spent 4 years making electric violins following that first commission in 1993. I experimented with shape and materials, with unusual design and with audio systems using the materials and technology available.

By 1997, I was selling electric violins, and they were attracting attention.

From strength to strength

It was in 2001 that I received a commission from Vanessa Mae. Vanessa was keen to use a sculpted acrylic electric violin model on her forthcoming album, ‘Subject to Change’. I was thrilled with the commission and produced a customised Crossbow electric violin. She now has a total of three of my instruments.

My modern acrylic electric violins now sell across the world, having achieved a reputation for excellent sound quality and visual impact.

In 2008 my instruments won a design award MIA MUSIC AWARDS 2008

The MIA Music Awards honour the best selling and most reliable and innovative products and retail initiatives in the UK and celebrate the top individuals and organisations within the musical instrument industry.

In what has been a challenging year for the industry the MIA Music Awards provide a much needed opportunity to acknowledge the professionals who continue to drive forward creativity and innovation

Today

Today, in my workshop in Lincoln I produce my violins which sell around the world – I sell mainly Vivo2 models but still produce a couple of custom made instruments a year. The Crossbow and Hades violins remain customised designs produced individually, to order, at the workshop.

My electric violins retain a handcrafted quality that make the modern violin designs unique. You can visit me at my workshop by appointment. Just call us and make arrangements to visit and see how it’s done.   Ted Brewer Violins are based in Lincolnshire and sell violins all over the world.  If you want to know how much our violins cost in your currency please contact us at ted@tedbrewerviolins.com
